KidSense Pilot Yard
Location: Pontchartrain and
Tchefuncte Schools

The KidSense pilot yard features three types of sensory stations:

• Equipment stations offer very specific types of either hard work or sets of movement that are needed to fulfill students’ sensory diets.  Each equipment station is nestled within a “green room” of plantings and natural materials, buffering excitement levels between activities.

• Natural stations - like our copse of crepe myrtle trees and the gentle rolling hill - soothe and calm while introducing opportunities for imagination

• Multi-sensory features - the mural and pathway - offer touchable, teachable moments. They are highlighted by the use of pebbles to inscribe uplifting words in Braille and by the intricate castings of life size Redfish.  This mural is one that ALL children can “see.”
